About

I am a master's student in the “Geography of Global Change” program at the University of Freiburg and have been interested in urban and regional development issues for many years. During late-night conversations on the edge of the dance floor, my interest in the potential of night culture for sustainable urban development concepts grew. However, the sense of solidarity in creatively designed spaces, where rolling bass beats not only inspire people to dance but also spark conversations about dealing with structural discrimination, is an aspect of urban life that has been researched too little to date. In a hyper-individualized world where it is becoming increasingly difficult for us to forget time for a moment, events (such as collectively organized techno events) become spaces for encounters and possibilities that promote a sense of community and connectedness. With my research, I want to highlight how nighttime subculture can provide impetus for urban development.
